Gillies Avenue 2 Gillies Ave involved the construction of a five level building and the regeneration of an existing building into ground floor retail space with car parking above. The project was fast tracked requiring a staged consent process. The process involved careful balancing of existing building tenant’s needs, whilst meeting the requirements of the new tenant who required completion within eight months of signing the tenancy agreement. The brief evolved continuously responding to the needs of prospective tenants. The built result differs from what was initially conceived. Aesthetically the building addresses the busy street corner, utilizing layered materiality and building elements to accentuate planes of movement. The material palette is reserved, strong and appropriate to the context. Resource Consent has been gained for a further office floor expansion on top of the older building that will facilitate either tenant growth or new office tenants as the market dictates. |
