Settled amongst beachfront Pohutukawas bordering the foreshore of Coopers Beach the house is specifically adapted to its coastal environment, making reference to the historical New Zealand vernacular of casual beachside living. The simple roof lines and play with forms and volumes creates a spacious and non-ostentatious beach home.
The house was initially designed and built as a modest three bedroom holiday house, with an additional bunk room to accommodate the client’s extended family. The house has since undergone significant alterations adding an additional living space and bedroom areas to the upper floor.
The colour and material pallet allude to the richness and textures of the trunks of the Pohutukawa trees that characterize the site.
